Many employers will have benefited from The Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme since the pandemic began which allowed businesses to claim for SSP paid to employees in respect of covid-related absences.
The Scheme will close on 17 March 2022 which means you will no longer be able to claim back SSP paid for covid related absences after this date. You will have until 24 March 2022 to submit any claims or to amend claims that have already been submitted.
Following this, all SSP rules will revert to normal and the unpaid “waiting days” will resume regardless of the reason for sickness absence.
As the rules for self isolation have now ended, employers will need to decide how they intend to deal with absence and pay when an employee receives a positive covid test, and this policy should be clear from the outset. If you are unsure how to manage positive covid tests please contact us for further advice.
